Web Design and Development Service

The most expedient way to create a Web site is to take an open source Web design of your choice, create a template (in English or French), personalize it to suit your needs and tastes, and use that template to create a set of cross-broswers compliant pages, quickly and with minimum fuss. Take a look at the Portfolio for real life examples.

What are Web designs?

Web Design is the selection and coordination of available components to create the layout and structure that give a Web site a common look and feel.

A generic Web design, i.e. a page containing layout and structure but without any content, can be used as a template to create individual Web pages with real content. If you think of a Web site as a book, where each page of the book is a web page, then a template is an empty book that you can fill out with your own content to make it unique.

Take this site for instance: I created it from a simple yet elegant design, I See New People, to illustrate the point!

What designs are available? Have a look at Open Source Web Design (OSWD) and Open Web Design. Each has thousands of excellent quality and great looking Web designs ready to be personalized into a unique site.

How do we go about it?

The general process from concept to delivery goes something like this:

  1. You email me your requirements and ideas and we come up with a clear vision of your future web site.
  2. You select a design from a reputable source such as those listed in the Links page. If you have several candidates, we work together to select the most appropriate one. If you have a unique idea, we integrate it into an existing design.
  3. We agree on any changes to the design, the number of web pages and their text and image content, and any additional services that you might need, such as those listed in the Web site and Domain Management Services on this page.
  4. Based on all the above, I determine the time and effort it will take me to complete the project.
  5. I email you a proposal consisting of a fixed Cost Estimate, a Statement of Work, and a Sales Agreement.
  6. When we agree on the content and terms of those documents, and you give me the "go head", I proceed with the development of your site on Admaris.com.
  7. Finally, I deliver the completed project as specified in the Statement of Work.

We do all communications by email as this provides us with a readily available history of the project.

Can you do it all by yourself?

As long as you are willing to use an open source design exactly as it is downloaded with "stock" colors, fonts, images, backgrounds, etc., are happy to just add text and photos, and know some basic XHTML and CSS-P, then yes, you can do it yourself! And don't forget that to publish the site, you will also need a minimum of knowledge on server and mailer set up and configuration.

Otherwise, you need expert help... and that's where I come in: you simply provide the content, and I do the rest.

Of course, you can always do without any design or composition, and come up with a site that looks like this, or this. I rest my case.

Why a professional, when my kid could do a site for free?

Kids are very smart when it comes to computer and the Internet. They are creative, think outside of the box, and some of the best open source designs were created by them!

But kids are...well kids, and once they have finished something, their interests usually go somewhere else. Where will your kid be when you want to update your site in a month or a year from now? How much time and effort will she be willing to put on "been there, done that" stuff"? How much learning is he willing to undertake to make your site work on a non-Internet Explorer environment?

Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for, and "free" stuff may end up being a curse more than a saving!

Web Site Re-Design Services

Need a facelift? You started out with a one or two page Web site, but now you're growing and you not only want to add information, you want a new look; you used a host service that gave you free space and a Web editor, and that was fine for a while, but you're tired of the ads; you want a site that better reflect who you are and what you do; you want to add dynamic effects; you find out that your site looks fine with Internet Explorer version 6 and below, but terrible on IE7 or on Web compliant browsers like Firefox, Opera or Safari.

We can work together to re-design your site content and functionality, using open source designs ideas and concepts.

Web Site Maintenance Service

A Web site is only as relevant as the information it contains. With time, he information may become outdated, and the value of what's on your Web site diminishes. A Web developer like myself can do the job of keeping a web site current much faster, and this frees you to do what's important.

I can also enhanced you site functionality by adding dynamic visual effects, navigation, calculators and forms, by developing server side functions like data retrievals and login validators, or by fixing existing problems with hmtl, JavaScript, asp, aspx, perl, php and sql.

Web Site and Domain Management Services

Once your web site pages are ready, one or more of these additional steps are required to make the Web site available:

  1. Register a Domain Name;
  2. Purchase space for your Web site with a Web hosting service provider;
  3. Configure the Web site folders, the FTP server, and the email account(s); and,
  4. Download the Web files and folders to the Web Host.

I can help you with, or take over any of the above tasks and provide you with a "turn key", Internet ready site.
