What are WordPress Themes?

A WordPress Theme is a collection of styling and programatic elements that gives a visual look and feel to information. WordPress implements a Model View Controller paradigm: every piece of information (like text and images) are internally catalogued in and extracted from database (the Model) . The theme (the View) pulls that raw infomation from the database using WordPress (the Controller) and presents it in a partiular way, based on the visual elements of the chosen “theme”, on a browser.

The beauty of this scheme is that Themes (the View) may be changed, altered and replaced at will without the loss of information. Furthermore, WordPress uses a simple and robust Content Management System that allow one or more user with no knowledge of web programming and design to enter or modify content (like text and images) using a simple web editor.

What Themes are available? For a start, have a look at WordPress.org Themes. This site has scores of excellent quality and great looking designs ready to be personalized into a unique site.

How do we go about it?

The general process from concept to delivery goes something like this:

1. You email me your requirements and ideas and we come up with a clear vision of your
   future web site.
2. You select (and we may suggest to you) a design WordPress Theme. If you have several candidates, we work together to select the most appropriate one. If you have a unique idea, we integrate it into an existing Theme.
3. We agree in priciple on any changes to the design, the number of web pages and their text and image content,
   and any additional services that you might need, such as those listed in the
   Web site and Domain Management Services on this page.
4. Based on all the above, we estiamte the time and effort it will take us to complete the project.
5. We email you a proposal consisting of a our rate and an estimate number of hours to complete the project or phases of the project, and, depending on the complexity and nature of the work, a
   Statement of Work, and a Sales Agreement.
6. When we agree on the content and terms of those documents, and you give us the “go head”, we proceed with the development of your site on Admaris.com or on a web server of your choice and bill you on the actual work perfomed to build your website. We keep you informed of any new development and let you evaluate the progress as progress is made.
7. The work ends when you are satisfied with the product, or after a pre-agreed upon number of hours.

We do all communications by email as this provides us with a readily available history of the project.

Can you do it all by yourself?

As long as you are willing to use a WordPress Theme or even an open source design exactly as it is downloaded with “stock” colors, fonts, images, backgrounds, etc., and are happy to just add text and photos, and know some basic XHTML and CSS-P, then yes, you can do it yourself! As a matter of fact, WordPress.com offers a free Blog area so you only have to choose a stock theme and start writing away… as long as you dont mind the adverts. It you want to set up a web site on a server, you will also need a minimum of knowledge on server and mailer set up and configuration.

Otherwise, you need expert help… and that’s where we come in: you simply provide the content, do what you can or want, and we do the rest.

Kids are very smart when it comes to computer and the Internet. They are creative, think outside of the box, and some of the best WordPress Themes were created by them!

But kids are…well kids, and once they have finished something, their interests usually go somewhere else.
